Facilities & Campus Services has contributed a brand new space for learning with the Outdoor Classroom installed outside of the Wilson Wing of ZSR Library.  A few steps inside the sidewalk bordering Gulley Drive, you can see the semi circle of stone benches and the podium pavers at the head of the space for the professor addressing the class.

The outdoor classroom is not only a Facilities project, but a collaborative effort between Campus Life, the ZSR Student Ambassador, staff and faculty in the Library, and Student Government.  Planning and Implementing a project will serve to “enhance the academic and social possibilities on South Campus,” according to Daniel Oberti, the senior WFU student who spearheaded the planning for this project.

The initial plans for the learning space featured the eight stone benches and a visualization of a speaker at an outdoor podium.  Repurposed from a past student project, the stone benches are actually meditation stones that used to sit along the Reynolda Village running trails.

The construction of the space was finished on Tuesday, October 2nd, with the later addition of a stone bench in place of the podium idea.  The Outdoor Classroom is meant to be used by any professor or group to host classes and gatherings on a beautiful day at Wake Forest.  With such a gorgeous campus, the space is expected to be filled quite often.
