Temperature Setback ProgramDec 21 - Jan 2Reynolda Campus Buildings
In an effort to reduce energy waste, Facilities & Campus Services will be implementing a temperature setback program for campus buildings over the winter holiday period.
Starting the night of December 21, 2012 and continuing until the morning of January 2, 2013, the setback program will maintain building temperatures at no less than 55 degrees (F) during the holiday break. Beginning at 2:00 am on January 2, heating systems will gradually return the buildings to comfortable conditions. We intend for all buildings to be at 70 degrees (F) by the time employees arrive at work on January 2. Facilities & Campus Services’ technicians will arrive early on that date to ensure building heating systems reactivate as scheduled.
Since the university will be largely unoccupied during this 10-day period, we anticipate the lower temperatures will not cause undue hardship. At the same time, this program will generate significant cost savings through less energy consumption. The program has avoided over $100,000 in energy costs over the last three years.
Staff or faculty who intend to visit or work on campus during the holiday period are advised to wear appropriately warm clothing and consider bringing a light jacket or sweater to work.
For departments that would like an exemption from this temperature setback for justifiable cause, please contact Ed Bullington at email@example.com or 336.758.3913 as soon as possible.
