Facilities staff were recognized at the University’s 12th Annual Campus Sustainability Awards as part of the Champions of Change program. Jimmy Nifong, Assistant Director of Utilities, received the Resource Conservation award for his technical oversight and coordination of the renewal and expansion of the University’s South Chiller Plant. Seth Looney, Utilities Systems Manager, was named an Everyday Champion for supporting campus engaged learning through the integration of stormwater management and utility infrastructure projects into academic coursework. Tim Kerr, Assistant Director of Facilities Services, received the Bright Idea award for creating the Surplus “shopping” initiative that rehomed 383 items from Alumni Hall, diverting more than 33,000 pounds from the landfill and avoiding an estimated $230,000 in costs for new furnishings and supplies.
