In 2025 the Waste Department piloted a program to transition from high-maintenance open waste wedges to durable, lidded residential-style bins across the South Campus Residence Halls. This change addressed issues of pest control, weather impact, and equipment damage, while significantly improving campus aesthetics and reducing long-term operational costs. Crucially, these lighter and more space friendly bins also reduce the risk of injury to the team that services them each day. Initial impressions are positive from students and staff, and we anticipate continuing this transition over 2026 to include most residence hall corrals throughout campus.
