Beginning in February 2025, the Surplus team hosted a shopping event to empty Alumni Hall in advance of its planned renovation. The initiative attracted 175 participants and repurposed 383 items for continued use on campus. In total, more than 33,000 pounds of material were diverted from the landfill, resulting in an estimated $230,000 in avoided costs to the University. This represents the department’s dedication to sustainability and resource circularity.
