Arboriculture
The Arboriculture Team is responsible for the care and maintenance of campus trees and is led by an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist. Their primary tasks include tree pruning and removal, large shrubbery pruning, mulching, and vegetation management in forested areas. Safety is the number one concern regarding trees. A combination of best management practices and routine inspections are performed proactively to minimize potential safety risks.
The Arboriculture Team also plants many trees each year to help offset losses to construction and other causes. A wide variety of species is planted to encourage biodiversity and create a beautiful campus environment. Emphasis is placed on using native trees whenever appropriate. The campus celebrates Arbor Day each year when the Arboriculture Team interacts with the campus community, sharing their knowledge and promoting tree planting. The University is recognized as a Tree Campus USA.
